The mission of the Latvian Foundation (LF) is to support and preserve Latvian heritage by providing financial assistance to projects that promote Latvian culture, education, and the arts and sciences. Funding for grants comes from the interest earned on LF capital, the latter being comprised of member dues, donations and testamentary gifts.
Applications for grants are accepted from January 1 to February 1.
Grants are awarded in two project categories:
Small Projects - These are projects for which grants do not exceed $2,000. Small Projects must be completed within one year of receiving the grant. The LF board votes to select Small Projects and the results are announced in April.
Large Projects – These projects are awarded grants ranging between $2,001 and $10,000. Large Projects must be completed within three years of receiving the grant. The LF board selects up to ten proposals from the total submitted and LF members vote to decide which of these projects will receive LF funding. The results are announced in mid-July.
For the year 2016, the total amount available for grants is $45,000, of which $15,000 is allocated to Small Projects and $30,000 to Large Projects.
Please note that LF grants cannot exceed 50% of the total cost of a project. In addition, LF does not fund international travel and any such expenses must be covered from other funding sources.
